In the late summer we traveled to California to eat great food, drink great wine, and hike in the redwood forests and on the rock beaches. We started in Santa Barbara, and drove to Big Sur, Carmel, Napa, Sonoma, and back to San Francisco.
We visited a number of vineyards with our favorites being Tablas Creek in Paso Robales Central Coast region, Robert Sinskey in Napa, and Preston in Sonoma. These wineries focused on Syrahs, Sauvignon Blancs, Pinot Noirs, and Pinot Gris.
Of course, we ate in many good restaurants which focused on local, organic, and sustainable ingredients. Our favorites included: Chez Panisse, Greystone at Napa CIA, Bistro Ralph in Healdsberg Sonoma, Nepenthe in Big Sur, Deetjens in Big Sur, Sea Grass in Santa Barbara, Jardinierre and A16 in San Francisco, and Montrio Bistro in Monterrey.
